About the Event

The details for our second Te tiriti workshop have changed. Same day and time, but a different venue. We will be holding an event at Unitc Marae later in 2024.

Saturday 21st September 2024, 10am - 2pm

Te tiriti workshop 2 to be held at at a private whare in Puketāpapa / Mt Roskill, Auckland

Tirohanga Pai is an example of a small modern suburban garden, about 5/6 years so far in the making. It has two key themes – a volcanic landscape theme coupled with productivity, resilience and self sufficiency with a deliberate Māori cultural overlay.

Alan Titchener, Titch, our Māori advisor, has offered to host us at his own whare / home for this session.

We will have the opportunity to hear his personal story and learn about Māori tikanga / customs, in particular the pōwhiri / welcome process in preparation for our marae visit. We will also view and learn about Titch’s māra / garden and the plants he grows, with productivity, resilience and self-sufficiency values, and a deliberate Māori cultural overlay.

We will spend the time developing our cultural capacity under his guidance and possible guest speaker input, in preparation for that eventual marae visit – we can learn waiata / songs, our roles in a pōwhiri and marae tikanga, and perhaps discuss te tiriti in relation to our society and practice as landscape designers and gardeners  etc. It will be a personal/intimate hui and much more informal than a marae visit.

There is a limit to 15 participants for this smaller workshop. Registration is essential by midnight Wednesday 18th September, 2024. All details below.
